[MaryVitamin] Our Lady of Lourdes: "Penance, penance, penance"

Mary Vitamin for February 9th

Topic
: Our Lady of Lourdes (Feb 11)

Quote:
"Penance, Penance, Penance"
The words of Our Lady of Lourdes

Meditation:
During one of the apparitions of Our Lady to Saint Bernadette, Our Lady requested that Bernadette go to the "spring". Thinking the Beautiful Lady meant the River Gave, St. Bernadette headed towards the river which flowed in front of the Grotto. Our Lady corrected Bernadette and sent her to the back of the Grotto and told the young girl:
"Go drink at the spring and wash yourself in it." And
"Kiss the ground as a penance for sinners."

At this apparition, the crowd became disgusted with Bernadette’s behavior, and even their own, that they could have followed this poor girl to the grotto to watch this humiliation.

One of the main messages of Lourdes is penance. What type of penance did Our Lady give to Bernadette? The practice of humility.

Resolution:
I will try to practice the penance that Our Lady of Lourdes requests by asking Our Lady to send me an opportunity to be humble. I will remember, when the opportunity comes, that St. Bernadette in an effort to follow Our Lady exactly, was willing to wipe mud on her face in front of the crowd.

Marian Vow:
"St. Maximilian, whom Pope Paul VI called, in beatifying him, Francis come alive again for our age, that is, because of his perfect imitation of our Blessed Father, said: Penance, penance, penance! the Immaculate repeated this to Bernadette. And is not this the goal of our Order, the Order of Penitents?â"

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

DOCTOR SAYS MANY ARE CURED AT LOURDES

Invites Physicians to Attend Congress for Their Own Healing

LOURDES, France, FEB. 8, 2010 (Zenit.org).- The former head of the Lourdes Medical Bureau is affirming that all people can receive a cure at Our Lady's shrine if they pray and hope for it with perseverance.

Doctor Patrick Theillier, who retired from leadership of the bureau last year, stated this in an interview with France Catholique.

The cure, he explained, "might not be as spectacular as to be considered a miracle."

However, the physician added, it can affect "in a profound and lasting way the person who experiences it, in all his being, body, soul and spirit."

Doctor Theillier affirmed that "these cures are truly innumerable."
