Thank you, Jesus, for our dear priests!

Dear Family of Mary!

"I am with you. Every day I pray for the shepherds and I expect the same of you. Because, my children, without their guidance and strengthening through their blessing, you cannot do it. Thank you." (June 2, 2012)

Our Lady expects us to pray for our priests and bishops, because we need them so very much, and because they are her chosen ones. She knows how very much our spiritual lives depend upon the priests. From her bird's eye view, she sees how they stand between us and the devil especially through Baptism, how they nourish us and unite us with the Body and Blood of her Son, how they heal our wounds in Confession and fill us with the Holy Spirit through Confirmation, how they help us to pass into the next life with the Sacrament of the Sick, build families with the Sacrament of Marriage, and receive other priests into their midst through Ordination. She sees how helpless we would be without them.

They have given their entire lives to serve us. They need our support, through prayer, as they battle to stand for us.

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is also designated as the World Day of Prayer for the Sanctification of Priests. Blessed John Paul II began this practice in 2002 and it has grown over the years. Now there is an Annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests, in which the Rosary will be prayed all over the world for our priests. We can join by praying our Rosaries that day for our priests. Here is a website that explains this initiative: http://worldpriestday.publishpath.com/

And here is a prayer written by Pope Benedict for this day:

His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI's Prayer for Priests

Pope_benedict-cross

LORD JESUS CHRIST,
eternal High Priest, you offered yourself to the
Father on the altar of the Cross and through the
outpouring of the Holy Spirit gave your priestly
people a share in your redeeming sacrifice.
Hear our prayer for the sanctification of our priests.
Grant that all who are ordained to the ministerial
priesthood may be ever more conformed to you,
the divine Master. May they preach the
Gospel with pure heart and clear conscience.
Let them be shepherds according to your own Heart,
single- minded in service to you and to the Church
and shining examples of a holy, simple and joyful life.
Through the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
your Mother and ours, draw all priests and the flocks
entrusted to their care to the fullness of eternal life where
you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.

AMEN

BENEDICTUS PP. XVI

(specially composed for Worldpriest)

(To be prayed at any time though especially for the Annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests as each country passes on the mystery of the Rosary to the next location the connecting link will be the Holy Fathers prayer.)

Thank you, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for giving us our priests, who are your representatives on earth, healing us, blessing us, saving us, and loving us in Your Name.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Cathy Nolan
