Dear Family of Mary!

"...I am praying, and you should also pray, that the Holy Spirit may enable and lead you, that He may illuminate you and fill you with love and humility.  Pray that He may fill you with grace and mercy.  Only then will you understand me, my children.  Only then will you understand my pain because of those who have not come to know the love of God.  Then you will be able to help me...." (October 2, 2012)

Our Lady wants us to understand her. She wants us to see things the way she sees them. It is important to her that we have her perspective on the world, on our lives, on the family of man. If we don't understand her, we will not be able to cooperate with her. Our efforts on her behalf may miss the mark. We may blunder, err in judgment. Because we are her free children, given intellect and will to help us navigate through life, we must understand what Our Mother is saying to us or we will not respond well.

On September 2, 2012 Our Lady said something very similar:

"Dear children, as my eyes are looking at you, my soul is seeking those souls with whom it desires to be one - the souls who have understood the importance of prayer for those of my children who have not come to know the love of the Heavenly Father. I am calling you because I need you...." (September 2, 2012)

Mother Mary wants to unite herself with those of us who understand how important it is to pray for her lost children. She needs understanding souls because only those of us who really see what she sees will be motivated to help her in the struggle for those souls who do not yet know the love of Jesus. Only those of us who see with the eyes of faith can understand.

St. Louis de Montfort was a prophet, and could see what Mary sees. He wrote tirelessly of Our Lady and her role in the days to come. He understood her part in God's plan for the ultimate salvation of the world. His words can seem too extreme to us, too "far out" to be true. But the more I read him, and reflect on Our Lady's messages and her presence in Medjugorje, the more I think that he understands Mary very well. He can help us to understand her too. He wrote about her role in the latter days, and I share some of it here:

55. In a word, God wishes that His holy Mother should be at present more known, more loved, more honored than she has ever been. This, no doubt, will take place if the predestinate enter, with the grace of light of the Holy Ghost, into the interior and perfect practice which I will disclose to them shortly. Then they will see clearly, as far as faith allows, that beautiful Star of the Sea. They will arrive happily in harbor, following its guidance, in spite of the tempests and the pirates. They will know the grandeurs of that Queen, and will consecrate themselves entirely to her service as subjects and slaves of love. They will experience her sweetness and her maternal goodness, and they will love her tenderly like well-beloved children. They will know the mercies of which she is full, and the need they have of her help; and they will have recourse to her in all things, as to their dear advocate and Mediatrix with Jesus Christ. They will know what is the surest, the easiest, the shortest and the most perfect means of going to Jesus Christ'; and they will give themselves to Mary, body and soul, without reserve, that they may thus belong entirely to Jesus Christ. (St. Louis de Montfort. True Devotion to Mary. N. 55)

Notice that St. Louis says that those who are consecrated to Our Lady will "see clearly, as far as faith allows, that beautiful Star of the Sea." The chosen ones of Our Lady will experience her sweetness, and maternal goodness, know her mercies, and understand her role as advocate and Mediatrix. These holy souls will understand Mary, who she really is, and her role in God's plan. That is what Mother wants of us! She wants us to understand who she is and what her job is. And then she wants us to help her.

How do we help her? Through our consecration to her, in which we align our wills with hers and just do what she is doing. And what is that? It is praying for the conversion of all souls who do not yet know the love of her Son. We become advocates along with her, joining our prayers with hers, and our longing of heart as well. We begin to love all her children with her love, and desire all to be saved. That is how we can help her.

May we understand Our Lady, in the pain of her love for her children, and in her power of intercession. May we help her as never before!
