Dear Family of Mary!

Yesterday, our Holy Father, Pope Francis, consecrated all of us to the Immaculate Heart of Mary! For that event, he asked that the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima be brought to Rome. After a night in vigil with the statue, the Holy Father celebrated Mass in St. Peter's Square, and then prayed the following prayer to Our Lady:

Prayer of Consecration on October 13, 2013, prayed by Pope Francis:

Holy Mary Virgin of Fatima,
with renewed gratitude for your maternal presence
we join our voice to that of all the generations
who call you blessed.
We celebrate in you the works of God,
who never tires of looking down with mercy
upon humanity, afflicted with the wound of sin,
to heal it and save it.
Accept with the benevolence of a Mother
the act of consecration that we perform today with confidence,
before this image of you that is so dear to us.
We are certain that each of us is precious in your eyes
and that nothing of all that lives in our hearts is unknown to you.
We let ourselves be touched by your most sweet regard
and we welcome the consoling caress of your smile.
Hold our life in your arms:
bless and strengthen every desire for good;
revive and nourish faith;
sustain and enlighten hope;
awaken and animate charity;
guide all of us along the path of holiness.
Teach us your own preferential love
for the little and the poor,
for the excluded and the suffering,
for sinners and the downhearted:
bring everyone under your protection
and entrust everyone to your beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus.
Amen.

I find this prayer very touching, and very personal. The Pope realizes that consecration is a personal act. Our Lady can only touch our hearts, one by one. We make this consecration personally, but our consecration prayer for others is intercession, we give them all to God through Mary with trust. So this consecration is for each of us who have prayed with him, and is intercession for the millions who do not yet know her love.

Our Lady gave a message about consecration in Medjugorje in 1986:

"Dear children! Again today I call you to consecrate your life to me with love, so I am able to guide you with love. I love you, dear children, with a special love and I desire to bring you all to Heaven unto God. I want you to realize that this life lasts briefly compared to the one in Heaven. Therefore, dear children, decide again today for God. Only that way will I be able to show how much you are dear to me and how much I desire all to be saved and to be with me in Heaven. Thank you for having responded to my call." (November 27, 1986)

Our Lady wants all to be saved. She will work with what she is given. So if we give her our hearts and let her give us her special love, she will do the rest. She will use our consecration to reach her other children. This love will spread like a flame, enkindling hearts that are dry and arid, far from God. Through our love, they will find love.

May we live our consecration every day. Every day, may we decide for God. Following Pope Francis, may we learn how much Our Lady loves each of us, and share that love with others.
