Dear Family of Mary!

Easter Season is a triumphant season. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, His Ascension into Heaven, and the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. We rejoice in Jesus' triumph over death!! It is an unbelievable joy for us who live under the shadow of death our entire earthly life. We celebrate our futures! Eternal life with God.

But during our daily life, there are many moments when the furthest thing from our minds and hearts is eternal life. In the midst of difficulties, trials, illnesses, upheavals, persecutions, and discord, we can lose our touch with our true future. The Triumph of Christ can be too far off to help us in our temporal fight.

This is when Our Lady of Victory can help us. As I pointed out yesterday, Our Lady was triumphant in every situation of her life. She was triumphant at each step along the road she walked, because she never lost her focus on the Good God who created her and loved her, and sent His Son to be her Child. She never lost her faith in the future that God had in store for her. She never gave way to temptation to fear or mistrust, to anxiety or selfishness. Those things may have assailed her relentlessly, but she stood firm in her humble trust in the Father, and never gave up believing, even when her Son was nailed to the Cross.

As I begin to realize this about Our Lady, I am beginning to understand the Magnificat more clearly. I used to wonder why she mentioned all those things about the lowly, the hungry, or those who fear Him. But now I understand that Our Lady was making acts of faith for all those who suffer in this world, who are not "on top of the pile" in the human scheme of things. She was standing firm and believing in God's ultimate plan to raise us all up into His Kingdom, into His life. She was demonstrating that triumph of heart that she chose day in and day out. (Read Luke 1:46-55 with this in mind, and see how it comes to life.)

Our Lady is with us in these days to help us maintain that same focus on the future that she had. In Medjugorje she is giving us messages that help us to learn to think like she thinks, and to believe like she believes. She wants us to be triumphant like she is. Here are two messages that come to mind:

"Dear children! Also today I am with you and I am looking at you and blessing you, and I am not losing hope that this world will change for the good and that peace will reign in the hearts of men. Joy will begin to reign in the world because you have opened yourselves to my call and to God's love. The Holy Spirit is changing a multitude of those who have said 'yes'. Therefore I desire to say to you: thank you for having responded to my call." (January 25, 2011)

"Dear children, I am with you and I am not giving up. I desire to have you come to know my Son. I desire for my children to be with me in eternal life. I desire for you to feel the joy of peace and to have eternal salvation. I am praying that you may overcome human weaknesses. I am imploring my Son to give you pure hearts. My dear children, only pure hearts know how to carry a cross and know how to sacrifice for all those sinners who have offended the Heavenly Father and who, even today, offend Him, although they have not come to know Him. I am praying that you may come to know the light of true faith which comes only from prayer of pure hearts. It is then that all those who are near you will feel the love of my Son. Pray for those whom my Son has chosen to lead you on the way to salvation. May your mouth refrain from every judgment. Thank you." (August 02, 2012)

May we follow Our Lady of Victory on her triumphant road towards heaven, filled with childlike trust in the Father, filial love for the Son, and hope-filled joy in the Holy Spirit. We are heaven bound!
