Dear Family of Mary,

"Dear children,  I, your mother, am coming anew among you out of love which has no end, from endless love of the endless Heavenly Father. And as I am looking into your hearts I see that many of you accept me as a mother and, with sincere and pure hearts, you desire to be my apostles. But, I am also the mother of those of you who do not accept me and who, in the hardness of your hearts, do not desire to come to know the love of my Son. And you do not know how much my heart suffers and how much I pray to my Son for you. I pray to Him to heal your souls because He can do so.  I pray to Him to illuminate you with the miracle of the Holy Spirit so that you may stop, always anew, betraying, cursing and wounding Him. With all my heart I pray for you to understand that only my Son is the salvation and the light of the world. And you, my children, my dear apostles, always carry my Son in your hearts and thoughts. In this way you are carrying love. All those who do not know Him will recognize Him in your love. I am always beside you. In a special way I am beside your shepherds because my Son has called them to lead you on the way to eternity. Thank you, my apostles, for your sacrifice and love. (September 2, 2014)

On the very day this message was given, Fr. Dominic Towey gave the homily at English Mass at St. James. I think the Holy Spirit was speaking through him. He spoke directly to one of the reasons some people "do not desire to come to know the love of [Our Lady's] Son." They even are "betraying, cursing and wounding Him." The occult has grown to huge proportions in our world, and it has disguised itself as harmless "fun" or healing. But it is not harmless. Let Fr. Towey explain:

Fr. Dominic Towey - Homily in St. James Church, English Mass September 2, 2014

I'd like to begin by telling you a little story about a Church of Scotland Minister. He came out one Sunday flashing new dentures. But he only preached for 7 minutes because the dentures were hurting him. And the following Sunday they weren't quite as bad so he preached for 10 minutes. And the following Sunday he got up and after 1 hour and 20 minutes two of the elders came up and removed him from the pulpit. They said "You know, minister, last week you only preached for 10 minutes and the week before for 7, what's the matter today?" "Well," he said, "You know I got new teeth, new dentures, and they were hurting me, but this morning when I was leaving I made a mistake and put in my wife's dentures instead." Well you don't have to worry because I don't have a wife so I didn't get my dentures mixed up!

The readings today put before us good and evil. We see Jesus going into Capernaum, a place where he had spent a lot of his public ministry. The town that was the home of the first pope, Pope Peter. And he goes there and he encounters evil. He meets a person who is possessed. And the person recognizes Jesus and he says "I know who you are, have you come to destroy us?" And Jesus says, "Be quiet and come out of him." And there was amazement for all who were looking on because Jesus was speaking with tremendous authority. He was speaking with a newness, a freshness. And they were amazed. Even unclean spirits obey him.

And today as we look around us, we see the power at work in the world. We see the evil of war. The evil that sometimes comes about because of people seeking power. We see the evil because of the destruction of the child in the womb, legally being killed by so many countries through abortion. We see the evil of the whole breakdown of morality. And yet in the first reading we have St. Paul telling us that we have within us the Spirit of God, the Spirit that can reach into the very depths of God himself. That is the Spirit we have received. And that Spirit is given to us in what I think is the most forgotten Sacrament. The Sacrament of Confirmation. There we receive new life, we receive the very power of God. We receive the very same Spirit that came upon Jesus at his Baptism. The very same Spirit that he speaks about in the synagogue in Nazareth. "The Spirit of the Lord has been given to Me, for He has sent Me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken, to proclaim a year of favor for the Lord." That is the Spirit, my dear brothers and sisters, which you and I have within us.

And you know it is very easy for us to look at all the bad things that are happening in the world and say it is terrible, but we have to look into our own hearts, and that is what Our Lady calls us to do when we come to this beautiful shrine. To look into our own hearts, because St. Paul tells us that nobody knows the heart of man, except himself. Nobody knows the heart of a person except himself. And Satan is very, very cunning. And today we see so many "good" Catholics who have been lured away to falsehood. Lured to things like séances, horoscopes and spiritual meetings. I have met so many people who have been totally broken because they have gone along to spiritual meetings trying to raise the spirits of a deceased relative or friend. This is playing with fire. There should be no place in the life of a Catholic for dabbling in any way in the occult.

And we see how far that road can take people. We have only to look at the campuses of America, where black masses are taking place. Where the very Person, the most precious Gift that we have, the Gift of the Eucharist has been desecrated in those terrible ceremonies. And I am sure people who started along the journey of dabbling in the occult never thought it would bring them to that state.

Today, brothers and sisters, if you have dabbled in the occult in the past, come before Jesus, come before the Cross, renounce the evil, renew in your own hearts the promises you made in the Sacrament of Baptism, the promises that were made probably on your own behalf, where you renounce Satan and all his works and all his promises and everything of him. For you are marked with the Sign of the Cross. You are marked as a disciple of Jesus Christ. You carry within you the power to change the world. You carry within you the power to renew the world, by the renewal in your own heart.

Evil is evil under any heading. And there should be no place for evil in the life of a Christian. I know many people have said that it is only adult fun. That is not adult fun. It is the breaking of the First Commandment of God. "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul." Accepting anything else is not of God.

But the good news is that if you have, you are in the right place. You are in the right place to receive healing and freedom. For the Spirit of God is given to us, and we can only lose that Spirit when we reject Him by accepting a spirit of evil, a spirit that is not of God.

I think I have shared this here before. I have a bishop friend in India, Bishop De Silva, a tremendous bishop and a very holy man. He says there is only one being in on earth that you should tell to go to hell. And that is Satan, and you do that because that is the place that God has made for him as a home.

Today as you gather here, whether it is your first day or your last day, give your heart to Jesus. Open your life again to the Holy Spirit as you did at Confirmation. Tell God that you want Him and Him only. Ask God to break any power of evil that may be clinging to us or trying to destroy us or try to take us into a dark place. We are people of the light. We are people empowered by God himself, by His Holy Spirit. Let us rejoice in that, and let us live as people of the Light, not walking into the darkness that Satan wishes for us.

Our Lady says over and over again, that Satan wants to destroy her plan. The very fact that we are here means that we are children of Mary, and because we are children of Mary he hates us more. Because he hates her, because God at the very beginning said, "I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed." We, accepting Mary as our mother, are the seed of Mary. And so there is great enmity between Satan and us and he wants nothing more than to destroy us. But God has won the victory. You are signed with the sign of the Cross. God brings freedom and joy and peace and holiness which nothing else in the world can offer.

Father Towey has been coming to Medjugorje for many years, and he carries Our Lady's school in his heart. You can hear his testimony in "Fruit of Medjugorje Episode 87". What a good pastor of souls!

May we all "come clean" of any occult practices and give our hearts over completely to Our Lord Jesus! This is a saving word for many in our day.

In Jesus, Mary and Joseph!
